You are not alone

We've walked people through this since 1983.

You did the work to move past a mistake, and it still shows up every time someone runs a check. That's exhausting. Clearing your record can lift that weight for good.

What's at stake

The next moves matter.

An unexpunged conviction can cost you jobs, housing, and licenses for years. In many cases, California law lets you change that. The sooner you start, the sooner it's behind you.

What "expungement" actually means in California

In California, an expungement under Penal Code 1203.4 doesn't erase your record. It reopens your case, sets aside the conviction, and dismisses it, so in most situations you can honestly tell a private employer you weren't convicted. That change opens doors that a conviction keeps shut. You may qualify if you completed probation, you're not currently charged with a crime, and you're not serving another sentence. Some serious offenses are excluded. There are also related tools that may fit your situation better, including sealing an arrest that never led to a conviction, and reducing a felony to a misdemeanor under Penal Code 17(b) before expunging it. California's Clean Slate law now clears some records automatically, but plenty of people still need to file to get relief.

  • Expungement (PC 1203.4): sets aside and dismisses a conviction after probation.
  • Record sealing: for arrests that didn't lead to a conviction.
  • Felony reduction (PC 17(b)): reduce an eligible felony to a misdemeanor, then expunge.
  • Automatic relief: some records now clear on their own, but not all.

The first step is a free record review

You don't need to know whether you qualify before you call. That's what we check.

  • Gather what you remember about the case, including the county and rough dates.
  • Don't assume you're stuck. Eligibility is broader than most people think.
  • Call us for a free review of your record and your options.
  • We handle the petitions and the court process from there.
